Luis Balboa, Sal Lopez, Eddie Carrillo and Brian Warman lead five of Canyon PSA's top teams after six weeks of CSL play. Here's a look at who's leading some of PSA's best teams so far this fall:
1. BU-18
Division: Gold
Record: 6-3-0
Coach: Luis Balboa
Balboa's boys have dropped three of their last four games and have been in and out of XK OC's Boys' Power Rankings, but they're still a force for PSA. Although they fell out of first place in their division with a close loss last week, they've got two games left on their schedule and a lot of desire left in the tank. They're off until Nov. 1 when they'll travel to San Bernardino to face Titans FC.
2. BU-14
Division: Silver Central
Record: 7-3-0
Coach: Sal Lopez
In 10 games they've scored 31 times while letting only eight slip by (including just two over their past five games). They're one point out of second place in their bracket and only four points behind leaders OSC Rage. Lopez & Co. have five games left on their slate, not counting League Cup. Though they won't face them again, PSA did knock off OSC Rage in its CSL opener (2-0).
3. GU-16
Division: Silver Elite South
Record: 5-1-3
Coach: Eddie Carrillo
This SES division almost isn't even fair. PSA has its one loss, but so do four other teams. Heck, even a two-loss team-- Laguna Hills Eclipse White--gets a ratchet up in the standings because it has only one tie. Carrillo's crew is idle this weekend, but has a chance to knock off one of two teams with identical records--Slammers FC Maroon--on Nov. 1. Things will start to shake out in SES before long and it looks like PSA has a favorable schedule remaining.
4. GU-9 Blue
Division: Bronze Omega
Record: 6-1-2
Coach: Brian Warman
Let's give a Bronze team its due. After all, this is Blue's first year on the club level and its doing great with 33 goals in nine games. They've got five games left on their docket, including matchups with the two teams in front of them in the standings: second-place NHB Black (this Saturday) and No. 1 FC Blades (Nov. 7).
5. GU-13
Division: Bronze Omega
Record: 6-0-2
Coach: Eddie Carrillo
Speaking of Bronze teams slaying it... wait--what's this team doing in Bronze in the first place? Unbeaten, 30 goals for and only one allowed through eight games. First-place PSA has a three-point lead on OC Premier, which they'll face in three weeks. Two games this weekend, including an away affair against third-place X-Treme on Sunday. Let's hope they don't look past winless Newport Mesa SC on Saturday before the big showdown, though. |
