Three games into the season the Canyon PSA GU-11 team remain undefeated after wins over Fullerton Rangers and North County Pacific Boca. Khalea Thompson scored three goals against Boca for the hat trick and goals from Danielle Leavelle and Peyton Lott rounding out the weekends scoring.
Saturday PSA (2-0-1) played a late afternoon game against the Fullerton Rangers. This was a bruising battle against a very aggressive Rangers team. The PSA girls remained well organized and played a strong first half of Futbol vs. Football. Their ball control and quick passes neutralized the opposition’s rough play.
Jade Poling served up an outstanding cross to Lott who calmly put in the finish on the far post for the games only score.
The second half called for great defense for PSA as the Rangers continued to press forward and continued their aggressive play which ultimately resulted in 3 yellow cards. Keeper Hayley Baca had 11 saves in this game as she anchored the PSA defense which has allowed one goal in 3 games this season.
Makenna Lu had seven headers in this game including a save in the box.
Sunday afternoon and another late game against NC Boca. Thompson scored an early goal capitalizing on a defender ill-advised pass back toward her own goal. She added a second score after creating her own opportunity with good dribbling and ball control.
Marisa Esparza sent a short pass from the 18 to Leavelle who squared up and one touched this for the games third goal. Thompson then added one more goal for the day to earn the hat trick.
The defense played another solid game allowing no goals and limiting the Boca opportunities. Lu added four headers in this match further demonstrating that she has a “head for the game”!
