| PSA Reaches Brea Kickoff Finals |

Canyon PSA's GU-11s played four games at the Brea Sports Park this past weekend. They battled opposing teams as well as high temperatures and humidity to emerge as finalists at the Brea Kickoff Classic.
On Saturday, they faced VC Fusion YSA in a defensive battle that ended with no score for either team. These two teams would continue to battle all weekend forcing a tiebreaker PK shoot out to determine the finalist team.
In game two against host team AC Brea, midfield control by Marisa Esparza and Danielle Leavelle and continued defensive toughness made sure that the lone Khalea Thompson goal was sufficient to insure the victory in this game.
Sunday morning facing the Wolfpack Blue, and armed with the knowledge that only a 3-0 victory would insure a chance at the
finals, the girls were well motivated. In the first half, an early goal by Thompson was all they could manage against the determined Wolfpack defense. In the second half a pretty assist from Peyton Lott to Ashley Maron who scored set up a dramatic finish.
Makenna Lu scored the all important 3rd goal late in the game to insure a shoot out for the finals.
Keeper Hayley Baca and defenders Jade Poling, Taylor Jimenez, Miranda Roman, Emily Rodriguez, and Mickey García provided solid defense the entire weekend, allowing no goals in the first three games. This group of defenders had allowed only 1 goal in 6 games over the last two weekends.
In the tie breaker against VC Fusion, keeper Baca blocked two penalty kicks and Garcia, Brisa Camey, and Kyla Torres, all put their PK's in the net to insure PSA advanced to the finals.
The final against United Futbol Club of North County was a back-and-forth fight with both teams battling until the end. An early goal by United FC was countered just minutes later when Peyton Lott sent a left footed goal across the front of the net and into the far corner.
Lott would score a second goal later in the game to put PSA up 2-1. United FC fought back and scored a late goal off a corner to end regulation play in a 2-2 tie.
United Futbol Club captured the victory with a Golden Goal in the second overtime period. All in all, it was a great weekend of Soccer for both teams and a great "Kickoff" just in time for the start of league play.
