In the thirtieth edition of the San Diego Surf Cup, Coach Paul Currie’s Surf Academy captured the BU15 title.

The San Diego Surf Cup Tournament annually features one of the most decorated field of teams, and this year’s BU15 flight included three state champions and three state championship finalists. Over the six matches required to lift the trophy, Paul Currie's Surf team would score 12 goals while only conceding twice. Brian Iloski would score five goals, including two in the final, while Isaac Miselewicz, Corey Baird and Jesse Ambritz would each score twice. Goalkeeper Lucas Doucette had a terrific tournament, punching out numerous crosses and registering five clean sheets.

Final – Surf Academy vs. Milan FC: Milan FC entered the final as the most prolific team in the competition, scoring 16 goals in their first five matches, but Surf would slowly gain control of the match, score on both sides of halftime and cruise in the second half to a 2-0 victory. Brian Iloski scored twice, including a beautiful second goal over the goalkeeper into the top corner of the net, and Surf’s defensive stoppers, Jesse Ambriz and Marcos Ramirez, held the Milan FC attack in check throughout.

Semifinal – Surf Academy vs Diablo FC: In a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal, Surf Academy faced Diablo FC in the semifinals. While the first half was tightly played in the midfield, Diablo would turn on the pressure in the second half. Surf Academy held strong defensively, however, and found its opportunity midway through the second half. Zack Pinnix played a perfect cross over the defense, and Corey Baird controlled the ball well and slotted it past the goalkeeper, sending Surf into the final.

Quarterfinal – Surf Academy vs. ISC StrikersSurf scored twice in the early minutes of Sunday afternoon’s quarterfinal and protected the lead throughout to earn a hard-fought berth in the semifinals. Isaac Miselewicz unleashed a wicked shot from 25 yards out that the goalkeeper could not reach, and Jesse Ambriz scored from the penalty spot after Mario Gutierrez was fouled in the penalty box. Unfortunately, Surf forward Bryce Flores would break his clavicle during the match and would be unable to play in Monday’s matches.
